Team Dream 2009 Logo Unveiled

Team Dream 2009 has been busy designing our logo to help promote our project and and next year's ride across the USA. Look for the logo at events, on correspondence, and maybe even on our bike shirts next year! We hope that it will become an easily recognizable symbol to remind our friends and supporters of this great cause.

Amy and Marsha ride Beautiful Backroads

On September 20, 2008, Amy and Marsha rode the Beautiful Backroads Century Ride in and around Cartersville, GA. The ride certainly lived up to its name, as we spun over hills, through valleys, and past stunning vistas. Marsha rode the metric century (about 66 mi.) and Amy rode the full century (102 miles--there's a story there). It was great training for next year's Team Dream 2009, when we will ride a total of 7 century days (over 100 miles each).

In other TD09 news, we have selected a ride logo and will be posting it in this space soon. Hopefully it will look as good on our Team Dream 2009 tattoos as it does on the website. (This is a hint to all TD09 riders: start thinking about the placement of your tattoo!)

Update: Spiegel Rides 80 Miles in the Covington Century

Team Dream member Mark Spiegel continued his training for the Big Ride by participating in the Covington Century ride the first weekend in August. Even though temperatures hovered close to the 100-degree level, Mark pushed on to complete 80 miles under very difficult conditions. Go Mark, go!

The members of TD09 continue to train hard for next summer's ride. Amy is planning to do the Beautiful Backroads Century ride in Cartersville, GA on September 20, and she's still trying to talk other members of TD09, or anybody else for that matter, into doing this ride with her.

Update: Team Dream 2009 Working on Atlanta Fundraising Mini-Ride

Team Dream has been working behind the scenes on two ideas to increase visibility and raise funds for this great cause. First, we are working on putting together an Atlanta mini-ride to kick off the TD09 cross country ride. All proceeds would, of course, go to the National Lung Cancer Partnership as part of the TD09 project. We're really excited about this new project, because it will allow those who can't participate in a long stretch of cross country riding to still ride as part of TD09. A big shout-out to Merian Beagle for this fabulous idea. More details as we have them.

We are also working to secure corporate sponsorships from local and international businesses for our ride and this great cause. As the actual ride itself looms closer, we will work on getting some press and/or media coverage for the ride and the cause. If any of you have experience with putting togther press kits please let me know. We sure could use some help on that front.

Lastly, the members of TD09 are training like mad for their adventure. Several of us have pledged to do at least one 100-mile ride before the winter sets in. See our individual blogs for updates on our progress.

Thanks, everyone, for your continued support for this great cause.

Update: Donations for Team Dream 2009 Exceed $10,000!

On July 22, 2008, donations for Team Dream topped the $10,000.00 mark. Thank you to everyone who has donated to this amazing cause. With your help, in just over two weeks we've collected over 10% of our donation goal of $100,000!
Thanks also to everyone who has called and emailed with your great ideas on how to reach more people and make this project more effective. We're working on implementing as many of your ideas as possible, both to help reach our donation goal, and to spread the word and raise lung cancer awareness. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, feel free to contact Amy at akwaggoner@yahoo.com.
If you are interested in learning more about the riders of Team Dream and our progress in planning and training for this ride, we soon will post individual blogs that can be accessed from the first page of the blog by clicking on our pictures.
Thanks, everyone, and keep on spreading the word!

Team Dream 2009 Adds New Rider and Sponsors

Team Dream is pleased to announce the addition of a new rider and sponsors.

Joe Rosen (pictured) is an immigration attorney in Atlanta. Joe describes himself as a "large, clumsy man on a bicycle" but promises not to wear Spandex. How could we say no to that?

Also new this week, Rachel Jacobson and Eric Olsen have donated $1.00 per mile to Team Dream 2009, for a total donation of $3,415 to our cause. In doing so, they have become the first official sponsors of TD09. They will be listed as sponsors on the website and will receive official TD09 bike jerseys. Maybe they can help us design them first . . . .

Rachel already volunteered to be a rider for TD09. Rachel, don't think this donation gets you out of riding; you can't get out of it that easily. Anyway, a big THANK YOU to Rachel and Eric from TD09 for their generous donation!
